Second Life group notice 2011-01-25: BDSM Institute blog

There is now a blog for the BDSM Institute at http://bdsm-institute.blogspot.com/ where news, events and links to various resources will be posted. Major news and updates will still be posted as group notices as well, but the blog will be more detailed and also contain minor news.

Ponygirl training and BDSM blogs

Sunday, I started training my 1st slave as a ponygirl. We have been discussing it for some time, and although she wasn't very enthusiastic about it at first, she finally grew to embrace the idea. I guess it helped some that she got an excuse for wearing a very sexy latex harness outfit. Now, I admit I hardly know the first thing about ponygirl training, so this will be learning for me as well. I probably should read up some on the subject, but I prefer doing things my own way, not caring much about what's orthodox or not.

After my slave said she didn't know how she was supposed to be as a good pony, I sat down and wrote a little list about what I expected of her. Some points on the list are pretty technical, owing to requirements from her pony gear: pony boots, hoof mittens, tail and head harness from Mesmerize Dungeon and pony HUD from Morbid Play. The boots require practice to walk and the tail time to be able to take larger tail plugs. My list of aims for her training is as follows:
  1. Learn to communicate by pony emotes. (no chat, IMs, emote chat)
  2. Learn to respond to commands. (attentive, understand, act quick)
  3. Learn to follow rein commands. (go, left, right, stop)
  4. Learn good posture and prancing. (handle AOs, animations)
  5. Learn to balance in pony boots. (practice)
  6. Learn to walk fast in pony boots. (practice)
  7. Learn to jump hurdles on a track. (look ahead, right speed and stance)
  8. Learn to follow complicated track fast. (look ahead, right speed and turn)
  9. Learn to pull and maneuver cart. (right speed, turn, backing)
  10. Learn to team with other ponies. (attentive, adapt, pace)
  11. Learn dressage. (memorize tracks and patterns)
  12. Learn enthusiasm. (encourage, offer, aid, thank)
  13. Learn acceptance. (accept use, whip, wait, solitude)
  14. Learn pride. (show off, pose, charm, comfort)
I also added a number of links to other blogs at least partly about BDSM in Second Life to this blog, wanting to offer other views on the subject than my own. The beginning of the list is personal blogs, followed by community and commercial blogs, and last the blog of a fashionista who wrote a very kind review of my site in Second Life.

News at the BDSM Institute: A simple pony training round was added around one of the sitting groups yesterday, with a central leash holder and cones for the pony to maneuver around.

News at the blog: A list with links to other SL BDSM blogs was added today.

Changes at the BDSM Institute, website and blog

suz has left this blog and handed it over to me, Magnuz Binder. She started this blog, with my blessing, in an attempt to make my Second Life site, the BDSM Institute, more visible. Now she has left Second Life, and neither has the time nor input to continue the blog. I wish to express my gratitude for all she did for me, both in Second Life, with this blog, and much more.

Much has changed since she last wrote in this blog. The BDSM Institute has moved to a new location in Second Life, now occupying the full mainland sim Qandico, on the adult continent Zindra. Much material, both written and 3D creations, have been added there. The BDSM Institute website has grown into a full website with much information and pictures, both about BDSM in general and about Second Life, in both English and my first language Swedish.

I will probably not be an as regular writer as suz was, but I will use this blog to highlight some of the things happening and changing at and around the BDSM Institute. For those of you who would like to see me inworld, I'm often around the BDSM Institute 10 AM-1 PM and 8-10 PM SLT (UTC - 9 h).

News at the BDSM Institute: Sitting groups with benches, bondage stakes and leash rings have been added at the central plaza today.

News at the website: 24 pictures of Qandico covered with snow from 2011-01-11 was added today.

About Experience

Opinions about experience in BDSM

Some people assume that they, or someone else, is an expert, just because they have a long or vaste experience of something.

That assumption may be true in many cases, but seldom when it comes to human relations, where every relation is unique, depending both on the involved parties and the interaction between them.

In BDSM, many both dominants and especially submissives say they don't want to get involved with people new to the scene but prefer experienced partners.

BDSM has got many facets, and experience achieved in one or some of those facets is not necessarily the same experience that a new partner is interested in.

The vague expression "experienced in BDSM" may mean knowing how knots should be tied, how maximum pain is inflicted with a whip, or how to most efficiently break someone mentally.

A dominant with 20 years of experience almost solely in whipping may not be the perfect match for a submissive who wants to be mentally controlled and manipulated.

On the other side, a brand new submissive who adores being whipped may be a far better match for the dominant above than a submissive with 20 years experience and love of being mind-fucked.

Both dominants and submissives with many years of experience in the areas they are interested in may be absolute beginners in areas that other dominants and submissives are interested in.

About BDSM Systems

Information about BDSM systems in Second Life

Zindra is a mainland continent, requiring age verification for access, to where LL has forced all adult oriented businesses and public activities in SLfrom other mainland, including BDSM. It also contains a central sim called Zindra.

Restrained Life Viewer (RLV) is a third party SL viewer modified to permit its user to hand over some control over their AV to other users, often used by submissives in BDSM activities in SL.

OpenCollar is one of several, open-source and seemingly the most popular, interfaces in SL to access the features of RLV and other functions, usually as a scripted slave collar, offering menus for control.

Xcite! is one of several systems in SL to simulate sexual excitement, based on a virtual excitement meter and scripted items adding excitement score, doing emotes and animations for the AVs.

LockMeister and LockGuard are systems used to display chains, ropes and similar in SL, to connect e.g. cuffs and anchor points, often combined with systems to limit AV mobility.

Many user-created BDSM items and systems are built to be at least partly compatible with e.g. RLV, OpenCollar, Xcite! and LockMeister/LockGuard, but often offer own or additional functions.

About Second Life

General information about Second Life

Second Life (SL) is a 3D virtual world run by Linden Labs (LL) which, although containing much basic functionality, is more of a platform for building applications and games rather than a finished game.

Users are represented in SL by graphical avatars (AVs), which can interact and may take and alter between many shapes, concerning gender, age and size, human or not.

Users can walk, fly and teleport (TP) in SL, and communicate by text chat (chat), textual actions (emotes), instant messages (IMs), group messages, notecards, voice chat (voice), visual signals and animations.

SL consists of geographically sculpted, tiled regions, each 256x256 meters, called simulators (sims) grouped into continents and islands.

SL mainland continents are groups of sims owned by LL but partly rented as parcels, ranging from 4x4 meters to a full sim, by users or groups.

SL islands are single or grouped sims, owned by LL, but rented and run each in full by a single user or group, allowing them more control.

Items and systems can be built in SL by combining geometrical building blocks called primitives (prims), textures and in-world scripts allowing interactivity and functionality.

Items created by users in SL range from cloth textures and simple, inactive prims worn as attachments by AVs, via vehicles and scientific models, to complex battle and role-playing systems.

Items can be sold or given to other users in SL, with different permissions (perms) on how the new owner can handle them, e.g. make copies or not (copy), transfer them or not (trans), and modify them or not (mod).

Users can get money in SL (Linden dollars, L$) by exchanging from real life (RL) currencies, selling items or services, e.g. being present to seemingly enhance popularity of an area (camping).

Paying (premium) users get a weekly allowance from LL (300 L$/week) and can own parcels on mainland to create and keep buildings and other items on.

About the Founder

Information about Magnuz Binder, the founder of the BDSM Institute

I, Magnuz Binder, am the founder of the BDSM Institute and have been interested in BDSM for some 40 years, practicing it for more than 30 years.

Having been a scientist and teacher for almost 20 years, compiling, structuring, processing, condensing and presenting information is a natural part of my life.

I produced my first informational website about BDSM in 1995, having continued spreading information since, with the web as an important medium.

For 7 years, I built and managed what became the largest BDSM community in Sweden, with chat, web play, information, stories and images, arranging meetings and parties.

I entered Second Life in 2007, working with producing both BDSM material and interactive aids for teaching and science.

Originally Second Life was just a tool for creating the items I wanted, but with time I have come to appreciate its social and sexual dimensions too.

I am the same personality in Second Life as else, and it is not a "second life" to me, just an extension of my first, one and only life.

I am not role-playing in Second Life, but am just being myself, even if I may need to adapt some to the tools available, e.g. emoting and virtual toys.

I am a heterosexual, dominant male, born 1964 in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, living and working there since.

My main interests in BDSM are bondage (Shibari style and breast bondage), discipline (gags, whips, clamps and plugs), dominance, (instructions and sexual control), and some humiliation.

Much of what I enjoy in BDSM depends on my partner, however. If she doesn't find pleasure in what we are doing, neither do I.

I may be experienced in BDSM in technical terms, but otherwise every new relationship puts me back on square one, like any other beginner.

Apart from BDSM, I'm interested in humans, programming, 3D, web design, photography, astronomy, chemistry, history, mythology, music, dance and martial arts, to mention some of my main interests.

As part of my mid-life crisis, I changed my career from science and teaching to IT development a few years back, giving me the challenge I needed after having reached the peak at my former job.

Major characteristics (which most people knowing me well seem to agree on): intelligent, analytical, structured, empathic, social (their opinion, not mine!), patient, fun, babbling, too much.

Major weaknesses: Asperger (light), poor self-confidence (which few seem to agree on), do not handle long-time stress well (hit the wall once and been close two times more).

Introduction

I am only the publisher of this blog, but much of the material published here have been created by the owner of the BDSM Institute and used with his kind permission. He's a very dear friend who offered me to use the material on my own blog about my BDSM experiences in the virtual world Second Life. However, the material he offered was so good I felt it deserved a blog of its own. Here I will present information written and compiled by my friend, and also presentations of his creations in Second Life, hopefully with some nice illustrations.

The below text is the creator's own presentation of the BDSM Institute.

The BDSM Institute offers information, entertainment and a place to meet for people interested in BDSM, be they just curious, new into the area or with long experience.

The BDSM Institute in the virtual world Second Life consists of an area in the region or sim Mosh, http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mosh/71/155/34 or secondlife://Mosh/71/155/34, on the adult continent Zindra, and an associated group providing information about updates and events, both with the name BDSM Institute. There is also an associated web site at http://www.bdsm-institute.com/.
